Science Center of Iowa

A collection of physics-based interactive exhibits called When Things Get Moving; a 30-foot ball wall with myriad interaction points, a paper airplane test launch area, and much more.

The Science Center of Iowa sought a refreshed exhibit space full of interactive elements all based on physics concepts. The centerpiece of the room is a wall-sized ball interactive with manipulable sections throughout; visitors to the museum can turn hand wheels to spin a maze or churn paddles, put balls into an air-powered tube trellis, move magnetic ramps to chart paths for falling balls, and more. When a clamshell container above the playspace fills up from balls fed into the tubes, it opens up and rains a flurry of crush-proof balls.
